Duracell

Reminds me of the Duracell commercial. “Students at Iowa Lakes Community College save the world by dancing around on giant pin wheels.” How Green of them, makes me want to buy their stuff.

Maybe they should spend a little more money on R&D and invent something more efficient than Lithium Ion so I wouldn’t have to carry 20 different chargers.

Road trippin’

Just wanted to give a little background on this road trip in case you are wondering what the hell I am doing in Indiana.

The origins of the trip are very practical: Vera and I are moving out to California so we needed to transport our cars from NJ. After weighing the various options (U-haul, moving truck, etc.) we came back to my favorite option: drive. The only issue with driving is that we both wanted to bring our cars but wanted to ride together. Fortunately my friend and coworker Jon Mahon offered to drive my car so Vera and I could ride together. So with that taken care of all we had to do was choose a route.

Last summer we made a trip out of delivering my mothers car from New Jersey, through D.C., Bad Lands National Park in South Dakota, Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone and Grand Teton NP, Moab, Utah, Las Vegas and finally Los Angeles. The trip was truly epic, and I never though I would have another opportunity like it.

Well the stars all seemed to align so we found ourselves planning another road trip less than a year later. We initially started to plan a southern route but reconsidered after thinking about Utah and the 105 degree heat. We’ll hit up Austin, Sante Fe, etc. next time but not in the summer.

So north by northwest it is. We decided to plan a trip through Montana to check out Glacier National Park before heading down through Oregon and California. After we thought about it we considered our lack of time constraints and realized Vancouver, B.C. is totally doable. So as I write this on my blackberry with my thumbs begging me to stop we do not have any concrete plans. We’re just going to freestyle it see where we end up.

“The journey is the destination” (Not sure who said it first but Google probably knows.). I think that pretty much sums up our philosophy for this trip. I’m really looking forward to checking out areas I wouldn’t normally consider “destinations” in and of themselves. This is not to say that I’m too cool for school. I’m a bonafide tourist, there’s no shame in that.

Alright so just wanted to get that out there really more for myself so I can look back to see where we thought we were going vs. where we end up. I’m going to give my thumbs a rest. The lady trapped inside my GPS tells me we are 2 hours outside Chicago.

Onward ho

En route to Chicago for a quick slice of deep dish pizza. Didn’t have much time to research the area so if you have any reccomendations let me know. Planning on staying in Madison, Wisconsin tonight before heading to Fargo, North Dakota tomorrow. Looking forward to the accent up there.

Reset

I had to delete my original blog because it was infected with a trojan…gotta love godaddy hosting.

Woke up this morning at the Omni in Indianapolis, not bad. Shout out to J&J for that. Today we will continue on in a more northern trajectory towards Madison, Wisconsin. We will be passing through Chicago which we skipped last summer so we will probably stop to check it out. Gotta get moving, we’ll send more updates from the road.
